In other words, this covers the time during which the interpreter is not actively interpreting but is dedicating time to the client, and therefore unable to accept other assignments.

For example: for an interpreting assignment<\/a> in Helsinki from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., an interpreter based in Paris would need to fly to Helsinki the day before. They would then fly back to Paris the day after the assignment. These two travel days are compensated.

The allowance may also cover the time spent on location during which the interpreter<\/strong> is not working but needs to acclimate to a possible time difference.

On the institutional market, these conditions are clearly defined through agreements between interpreter associations and international organisations.

On the private market, however, there are no set agreements or standard rates.
